Luxury Holidays in Antigua
Hermitage Bay is an All-Inclusive boutique hotel surrounded by lush hillsides and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Tucked into a beautiful bay in one of the most secluded corners on the southwest coast of Antigua, The adjoining natural mangrove supports a unique and intriguing eco-system of its own with its dark waters and diverse plant life.
ANNUAL CLOSURE: The resort will be closed between 31 August to 09 October 2019
Located on the edge of the beach and into the hillside, the individual cottages are open-plan with outdoor showers and the décor is simple with pristine white linen, plush towels, ivory cushions and light textured walls that soften the rich hues of the dark floorboard and furniture.
Using the freshest and finest ingredients available, fresh local produce and organic vegetables from the hotel's very own kitchen garden, the restaurant serves a hearty breakfast followed by a mouth-watering international menu for lunch and dinner that changes daily. Weekly cooking demos are also provided and picnics on the beach can also be arranged.
Days can be spent being pampered by a treatment at the Garden Spa, enjoying a dip in the infinity-edge swimming pool or taking advantage of the complimentary non-motorised water sports.
Hillside Pool Suite
The views from the Hillside Pool Suites are truly awe-inspiring panoramas of the Caribbean Sea and lush landscapes that surrounds Hermitage Bay. The dense foliage and flowering vines that entwine the suites’ dark lattice fencing shield the private sundecks and plunge pools from neighbouring suites and passers-by. The outdoor living space rivals that of the luxurious bedroom and ensuite bath as each hillside suite features a wrap-around covered patio complete with double day beds, sofa love seat, small dining table and plantation chairs ideal for a morning coffee or sunset cocktail.
Scaling four tiers of the hillside behind Hermitage Bay, each of the 17 pool suites has been built to a standard size and laid out to maximize the views and privacy of its occupants. The first tier consists of suites 20 to 23 and is easily accessible via one of the hotel’s main walkways. These suites give one the benefit of the pool and views whilst being virtually right on the beach. Suites 24 to 36 span tiers two and three, while suites 37 through to 39 climb further up the hill, affording increasingly beautiful vistas and quiet seclusion.
The eight Beachfront Suites at Hermitage Bay are staggered over two rows and extend from the edge of the white sand beach to the gardens just beneath the hillside. Each open-plan room has an ensuite bath and split-level lounge that opens onto a wide patio complete with outdoor dining area, double day beds and reclining plantation chairs.. Built adjacent to the hotel facilities, the beachfront cottages are just a few steps away from the pool lounge, reception and restaurant.
These are identical to the Beachfront Suites but set one row back on the beach but still benefitting from wonderful sea views between the suites in front.
Though it is often said that the entire Hermitage Bay experience feels like a pampered massage, you may also enjoy actual spa treatments influenced by the ancient eastern concept of Chakra at our Garden Spa. Defined as energy centres that receive, assimilate and express your life force, there are seven chakras in total: five located along your spine, one near your brow, commonly referred to as “the third eye,” and “the crown,” which represents a connection with your higher self and the very essence of your being.
The beach at Hermitage Bay spans one of the most beautiful, protected coves in Antigua. Extending for some 1,250 feet, the plentiful sand varies in texture from powder-white to smooth, colourful seashells. A coral reef thrives immediately in front of the property, providing a natural wave barrier and convenient snorkelling. On either side, the calm, crystal clear waters of the bay are ideal for swimming.
Some of the most enticing activities at Hermitage Bay are provided courtesy of the Waters Sports Department. In keeping with the serene atmosphere, only non-motorized sports are available, including snorkelling equipment, windsurfing, hobie kats, sunfish and kayaks. Introductory instruction is available, however the calm waters of the protected bay are so inviting that beginners often find themselves gliding across the water in kayaks or coasting on a hobie kat, learning as they go.
There are two golf courses on island, The Jolly Harbour Golf Club located just ten minutes from Hermitage Bay and the Cedar Valley Golf Course located 3 miles north of the capital, St. John’s.
The Jolly Harbour course is an established par 71, 18-hole championship golf course, and is open to visitors on a daily fee basis in addition to offering weekly, monthly and annual rates. For updated pricing and tee time reservations, please email the pro shop.
The Cedar Valley Golf Course is a par 70, 6,157 yd course that welcomes players of all levels. The club offers a 300 yd driving range and resident professionals available for private lessons. For more information regarding tee times and club rental, please visit their website.
One of Hermitage Bay’s most distinguishing qualities is the commitment to serve delicious meals made from the freshest, highest quality ingredients. As avid travellers accustomed to world-class cuisine, they consider dining to be an integral part of the holiday experience and hold the restaurant ambiance, service and cuisine to the highest of international standards. Under the direction of seasoned yet ever-curious executive chef, Hermitage Bay offers a varied menu of Caribbean favourites, American classics, and modern European fare with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Our multi-tiered, al fresco restaurant is quintessentially Caribbean. “Set up against the beach, (it) is just another picturesque element of the property,” offering unobstructed views of the bay and a perfectly intimate setting. Though the restaurant is one of the hotel’s most charming attributes, you may also enjoy dining by the pool, in the lounge, or on the beach. Room service, private dining under the stars, and picnic lunches are available as an additional service. Regardless of setting our staff go to great lengths to ensure that “every meal (is) artfully presented and just delicious.”
Recognizing that true 5 star dining is not limited to fois gras and caviar, the chefs at Hermitage Bay create savoury entrées that are ideally suited to guiding principles. The menus change daily, so that each meal becomes an occasion to sample different flavours and try original recipes. Local produce, poultry, and seafood are used liberally in accordance with effort to minimize food miles. With so much emphasis placed on fresh, high quality ingredients and made-to-order entrées, “[the food] is what you would expect from a 5-star restaurant, not an all-inclusive resort.”
