Borgo Egnazia, Puglia
Every day of the year, in every season, Borgo Egnazia is like a breathing tale of Puglia, spoken by the ancient culture of the land and by the sheer beauty of its nonpareil architecture. Far from a resort, it embodies a brand new concept of hospitality based on local, authentic experiences.
“To provide our guests with an experience that can’t be enjoyed anywhere else and is based on local authenticity, spirit and beauty”: this vision has allowed the Melpignano family to help transform Puglia into one of the most sought-after and beloved destinations across the world, starting in 1996 with Masseria San Domenico, originally the family’s private vacation home. Today, Borgo Egnazia is the biggest property of the San Domenico Hotels group.
Borgo Egnazia is in Savelletri di Fasano (Brindisi), a few steps away from the Adriatic coast, the slopes of the Murgia and the Itria Valley and it’s easily accessible both from Bari (about 50’ by car) and Brindisi (about 35’ by car) international airports and from the Fasano train station (about 5’ by car).
ROOMS AND VILLAS
Borgo Egnazia was built entirely of rough limestone and local stones cut by the skilled hands of stone masters. Artist and designer Pino Brescia was inspired by the simplicity of Puglia’s ancient farmhouses and rural villages. It is a contemporary interpretation of Apulian architecture, providing three kinds of accommodation, different in scope and size, but all conceived as an harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, modernity and authenticity, grandeur and simplicity.

We strongly believe the richness and depth of Puglia can only be effectively presented by Apulian people. Always at your side during your stay at the Borgo, a Local Adviser is a kind of special “local friend” who knows and loves the place and grows an empathic relationship with you, opening closed doors, telling unheard tales, arranging the unexpected, anticipating and fulfilling your wish or curiosity, whether it’s places or exhibits to visit, “off-map” tips, folk traditions and customized experiences.
FACILITIES AND RELAXATION
We provide a wide range of opportunities and facilities allowing you to pursue all of your preferred relaxation and sports activities. We feature three large outdoor pools (one of which is heated), one heated indoor pool, four tennis courts, alongside a boutique (Bottega Egnazia), a game room, a cigar room and a reading room. In the warm months, you can also enjoy a dive or a sunbath at our two private beaches: the rocky Cala Masciola, equipped with a Water Sports centre and fresh fish restaurant Pescheria Da Vito, and the sandy La Fonte, ideal for families since it features a nice Kids Area.
SAN DOMENICO GOLF
San Domenico Golf is a beautiful 18-hole course, one of Italy’s best and a well-established leg for some major national and international tournaments. Totally immersed in the rich Mediterranean flora, it provides a stunning view of the blue Adriatic from every single hole, with the sea wind sweeping all over the course during gameplay. It was designed by architect Andy Haggar for London’s European Golf Design in compliance to the highest standards under the USGA specifications.
NOWHERE ELSE EXPERIENCES
Borgo Egnazia offers a unique hospitality experience, tailor-made to every need. Our in-house DMC company Indigenus provides guests from all over the world with what we like to call “Nowhere Else Experiences”. These are a full array of Apulian experiences they can only enjoy here as if they were natives: places and activities from everyday life are customized to be uncommon and unrepeatable, such as driving around old town centers by vintage cars or enjoying a nice lunch or Italian coffee at a local’s home.
Recently awarded as World's Best Wellness Spa at Boutique Hotel Awards, Vair (the Apulian word for “true”) is a 2,000 m2 Spa leveraging a human being’s own resources and inner beauty to promote happiness. Local ancient healing therapies are integrated in Vair’s very unique programs, the very heart and engine of our Spa’s vision.
Borgo Egnazia has a tradition of ensuring good and fun holidays for the whole family. Little guests are welcome into the magical world of Trullalleri Kid’s Club, while teenagers can either attend the Marinai or Tarantari Club. So many experiences and activities wait for your children here: a real farm full with animals to take care of, bike trips, cooking classes, to name just a few.
Discovering Puglia is the beginning of a true experience of love. During the relatively mild fall and winter seasons, a vast choice of produce from the ground, beautiful colours, unique village festivals and ancient traditions is guaranteed, while spring and summer literally make Puglia bloom and burst with events, beach parties and shows. Not to mention that, regardless of the season, natural landscapes and human settlements are always breath taking to watch. Puglia is also renowned for its culture and art; worth more than one visit are the truly peculiar UNESCO World Heritage sites that lie in our land, such as the beautiful and mysterious Castel del Monte near Andria (believed to be a former hunting home of Frederick II), the world-famous “trulli” (cone-roof houses) in Alberobello, and Monte Sant’Angelo, one of the oldest Michaelic cult sites.
This region is really rich in architectural beauty, from the amazing towns of the Itria Valley (the breath taking “cummerse” houses in Locorotondo or Ostuni, the “White Town”) to the small seafront village of Polignano and Monopoli, and the marvels of the Salento area (the Baroque buildings in Lecce, also known as “the Florence of Southern Italy”, and the measured elegance of Otranto, the easternmost city on the Italian peninsula).
RESTAURANTS AND BARS
Apulian food is recognized all over the world for its diversity and genuineness. Every restaurant at Borgo Egnazia provides the highest quality in terms of food and service, along with a different mood for each location. Our executive chef and his team create their menus using fresh local materials from our rich soil and our generous sea. Oil, wine, vegetables, fish, meat, spices: they all concur to our vision of fulfilling our cuisine’s two-fold soul: gourmet and traditional. And if you love enjoying a drink during the day, an apéritif at sunset or a toast after dinner, don’t miss the classic cocktails and unique novelties at our bars.
Due Camini: an evocative and refined gourmet restaurant, made precious by limestone, wood and candle light swashes, it offers a true “auteur cuisine”, complex yet authentic and simple. Here Apulian traditions are revamped by our executive chef Domingo Schingaro through a culinary touch, using carefully selected ingredients and skillful creative cooking methods.
La Frasca: a genuine Apulian “trattoria” in the heart of the Borgo, where wood blends with the clean white halls and the tools and objects from our rural heritage. Guests can discover the deep rural roots of Apulian typical cuisine through a menu celebrating the many treasures of our local tradition.
Trattoria Mia Cucina: an “open kitchen” where old and forgotten recipes can be enjoyed just like in a local home and where our beloved “massaia” Mimina shares the ancient secrets of Apulian cuisine. At the lovely “A Pizzerì” outdoor area you can also taste some excellent pizza, made with the best ingredients and three different dough varieties.
Pescheria da Vito: a seafront culinary corner, located at our private beach Cala Masciola. A blend between a restaurant and a fish shop, it serves light salads, pasta dishes and most of all extremely fresh seafood. Guests can pick up fish from the market stall and have it weighed and cooked at their wish or enjoy it according to the Apulian tradition of “crudo” (raw).
Il Cortile: a pleasant open-air space focusing on “live” cooking and fresh local raw materials. Here, a number of food stations allow guests to follow and learn the making of their preferred dish, be it a first course, a meat or fish recipe or a freshly composed salad.
Da Puccetta: a magic and otherworldly place for our younger guests, where every detail and piece of furniture, from chairs to tables or the buffet, is sized to children, who will enjoy great moments of joyful playing and natural and simple dishes that change every day.
Bar del Portico: a perfect lounge adorned with glass jars filled with dried pulses and cinnamon sticks, offering cocktails, such as the home special Ramato, apéritifs, a refined selection of wines and light snacks. Other pleasant areas for chilled refreshments are available across the property: the open-air Capanno Bar by the main pool, L’Angoletto Bar by the Family Pool area and Caffe della Piazzetta in the grand Piazza.
