The Best of Croatia Inspired Itinerary

Day 1 & 2

Fly London - Split

Perched on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, you’ll start this wonderful journey in the ancient town of Split. Famous for its varied history and Roman architecture, Split is the perfect place to soak up a sense of Croatia’s past and its vibrant culture. In the evening, wander down to the Riva waterfront and join the locals for a drink in this lively stretch of bars and restaurants, and take in the wonderful sea views. Here you are perfectly located to then continue your trip to the neighbouring islands of Brac and Hvar.

Spend 2 nights at the eclectic Judita Palace, a wonderful mix of architecture, from Roman to Gothic and Renaissance and found within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace, in the heart of Split’s old town.

Day 3-6

Brac

Take the ferry to Brac, a beautiful island with 3 nights to explore. Home to mountains, pine forests and peaceful coastal villages, Brac is Dalmatia’s largest island, and a picturesque haven just one hour from mainland Croatia. The pine forests are peppered with quaint fishing villages, and the island plays host to olive groves and vineyards, producing some of Croatia’s best wines. Brac is steeped in history, take some time to explore the rugged coastline and historic town, medieval forts, hidden caves and abandoned monasteries are just a handful of what the island has to offer.

Stay for 3 nights at Hotel Lemongarden, an adult only gem set in a garden full of Mediterranean trees and flowers and steps away from the seafront. Stylish rooms, suites and maisonettes are tastefully decorated, and a full range of first-rate facilities include a heated pool, private beach, spa and restaurant.

Day 6-9

Hvar

From Brac, take the ferry south to the island of Hvar to spend your next few days relaxing and soaking up the local culture. The pretty central harbour is incredibly popular during the summer months, and with good reason, however it is the little-explored interior of the island that is arguably the most beautiful, with lavender fields, peaceful villages, rolling vineyards and pine-covered hills. Explore the hidden corners of beautiful Hvar by car, foot or bicycle, it is becoming particularly well-known for its wines and a tour of the local vineyards is highly recommended.

Stay at the 5 star Palace Elisabeth, perfectly situated on Hvar’s sea-facing main square next to the town hall and its 15th-century loggia. Historical attractions such as the imposing St. Stephen’s Cathedral and Hvar Public Theatre (the oldest in Europe) are literally just around the corner on the town square. This is the hub of Hvar’s tourist buzz with many bars, cafés, restaurants and nightspots on the doorstep.

Day 9-13

Dubrovnik

Head back to the mainland and Dubrovnik for the final 4 nights of your Croatian adventure. There is plenty to keep you entertained in this fascinating city and we recommend you start with a guided tour of the Old Town.  Soak up the cobbled streets lined with traditional churches and admire the stories behind this walled city.  If you do want to escape the bustle of the city during your stay, the stunning Elaphiti islands are just a short boat trip away, or the spectacular Mljet National Park is the perfect place to discover Croatia’s natural beauty.

Your Dubrovnik home for 4 nights is The Hotel Excelsior, built into a hillside above the coast, overlooking the sea and the pine-clad islet of Lokrum. The hotel is a pleasant 10-minute walk from Ploče Gate, the eastern entrance into Dubrovnik’s Old Town. A historic five-star property, it has 158 contemporary rooms, a stone-paved bathing area, a spa with an indoor pool, three restaurants including romantic waterside tables at Prora.
